Which artists appeal to teenagers?

Look at the typical artists who appeal to a teenage audience by looking at products designed specifically for that target audience. Click on the image above and look at how the BBC Radio One Teen Awards is being packaged to appeal to the 13-15 demographic.

Representation in Music Marketing

How musicians are represented in a marketing campaign reflects something about their music genre and target audience. Here Ariana is represented as an artist who is beautiful, honest and yet with an innocent look. All of these traits are designed to appeal to the target audience and create a pop genre image.  Task: Look closely at this digipak and label the codes used to signify more about her work and her as an artist. Task: Pick 3 album covers from (from 3 different music genres). Copy them onto a Word document or PowerPoint. Annotate it in detail, based on the following: How are men and women or the genre itself represented? In a stereotypical or non-stereotypical way? Who is the target audience of each album? Analyse how reality is constructed: Representation of Teenagers in the media. Task: You are going to write up your findings in your book. There are questions here to help you structure your answer. Remember, you must write in paragraphs and discuss whether stereotypes are frequently used. Introduction: Explain a definition of stereotypes and why they are used by the media (you can refer to TV Drama as your examples). Comment on how frequently teenagers are stereotyped in TV Dramas and why you think this group is often stereotyped in soaps and TV Dramas at all. Paragraph one: Find an example of a TV Drama aimed at audiences with older viewers. How often are stereotypes used to portray teenagers? Why do older people believe these stereotypes to be true?
