CD cover research task


Your task is to research CD cover/ album (vinyl) cover art.

  • Pick three or four music artists that you like and research the artwork (only album cover art is permitted) that accompanies their musical releases. 
  • Google the artists name and look for their discography on wikipedia.
  • Save examples of their work and make a document that displays them effectively.

Answer the following questions for each piece of artwork:

  1. What works best about the image that has been selected?
  2. Why has that particular image been selected and what is effective about it?
  3. How is the artist being represented in the artwork?
  4. What colours (colour palette) have been used?
  5. What effect do the colours have on the overall piece of artwork?
  6. What type of font has been used? 
  7. What is so effective about the fonts chosen?
  8. How would you make the cover better?

Stereotype (brief definition): 'a widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person or thing'. Are teenagers represented in a fair way in the media? Find a variety of images representing the typical teenager. Is it easy to find positive images or are most of them negative? What are the reasons for this? The Lego Movie (2014) is a 'tent-pole' film production by media conglomerates Warner Bros. This means that its success was of major importance to the studio in terms of funding other projects. The film was a major motion picture which is expected to generate major income for a studio, which can be redistributed and used to support and find other releases. The film is also an example of how a global studio, like Warner Bros, releases a film in a specific national territory, the UK.
