Mr Smith's Movie Poster Lesson 2 - Preliminary Research


Today you will be researching ideas for a piece of work-the creation of a poster for an action/adventure film aimed at a teenage audience.

 Your task is to find at least twenty different examples of movie posters for action adventure films. Save the images in a folder and add them to a PowerPoint. Make sure they are all clear and of the same size on your page. 

 Categorise the posters in two ways:
  • posters promoting films for a teenage audience
  • posters promoting films for an adult audience
Extension task:

 You will notice that some movies have multiple posters. Choose a recent action/ adventure film and find as many posters for that film as you can.

Teenage Stereotypes A stereotype is a thought that can be adopted about specific types of individuals or certain ways of doing things. Stereotype (brief definition): 'a widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person or thing'. Are teenagers represented in a fair way in the media? Find a variety of images representing the typical teenager. Is it easy to find positive images or are most of them negative? What are the reasons for this? Research Task: Collect a range of images (at least 10) of teenagers, both positive and negative. Make a mood board or poster using these images. ( use Photoshop ). Print out and stick in your book. The Lego Movie (2014) is a 'tent-pole' film production by media conglomerates Warner Bros. This means that its success was of major importance to the studio in terms of funding other projects. The film was a major motion picture which is expected to generate major income for a studio, which can be redistributed and used to support and find other releases. The film is also an example of how a global studio, like Warner Bros, releases a film in a specific national territory, the UK.
