Next Two Lessons

Over the next two sessions you will be making a film poster.

 You need to do the following:

  • Make up a film title and suitable tagline.
  • Decide on the stars of the film. You can include yourself.
  • Take a photo to go on your poster. You don't have to do this, you can use images from the internet.
  • Choose an appropriate background image.
  • Set up your page as A3.
  • Make your poster.

Teenage Stereotypes A stereotype is a thought that can be adopted about specific types of individuals or certain ways of doing things. These thoughts or beliefs may or may not accurately reflect reality. Is it fair how teenagers are represented in the media? Look for a variety of images representing the typical teenager. Is is easy to find positive images or are most of them negative? Why is this the case? Research Task Collect a range of images on a Powerpoint slide - Print this out to stick into your book. Do you think it is fair? Extension Task Can you think of anywhere in the media where teenagers are presented in a positive or realistic way? Add this to your work to try and balance your argument about teenage stereotyping.

Representation - Teenage stereotypes

Stereotype (brief definition): 'a widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person or thing'. Are teenagers represented in a fair way in the media? Find a variety of images representing the typical teenager. Is it easy to find positive images or are most of them negative? What are the reasons for this? Research Task: Collect a range of images (at least 10) of teenagers, both positive and negative. Make a mood board or poster using these images. ( use Photoshop ). Print out and stick in your book. Find three news articles which involve teenage stars. Copy and paste the headline and relevant text from these. Print out and stick in your book. The Lego Movie (2014) is a 'tent-pole' film production by media conglomerates Warner Bros. This means that its success was of major importance to the studio in terms of funding other projects. The film was a major motion picture which is expected to generate major income for a studio, which can be redistributed and used to support and find other releases. The film is also an example of how a global studio, like Warner Bros, releases a film in a specific national territory, the UK. The marketing campaign for The Lego Movie was significantly important to Warner Bros because the film needed to generate a substantial profit.
